This policy describes how the TextExplainer AI browser extension (“the Extension”) handles information when you use it. Replace bracketed placeholders below with your real contact details before publishing to the Chrome Web Store.

What the Extension does

You select text on webpages and request an explanation. The Extension sends the selected text to our backend API, which forwards it to DeepSeek (or another model provider we configure) to generate explanations. We do not use your data to train models.

What we collect

• Text you submit for explanation — sent to our servers only when you trigger an explanation.
• Local usage counters — the Extension may store simple settings or daily usage counts in chrome.storage.local on your device (for example, free-tier limits). This stays on your device unless we explicitly sync it elsewhere.

Third parties

Explanations are produced by an AI provider (currently DeepSeek) via our API. Their handling of requests is governed by their policies and terms.

Data retention

We aim to process requests transiently for the purpose of returning an explanation. If we add logging or retention beyond that, we will update this policy.

Children

The Extension is not directed at children under 13.
